Susan Rickard
All Sorts
Date: May 1 – May 31Space: Foyer
CAN are pleased to welcome Susan Rickard with her exhibition ‘All Sorts’ to the CAN Foyer this May.
Susan is 72 and currently living at Voguehaven Rest Home, where she enjoys painting.
She suffered many health setbacks in 2023 which has been a challenge for her. Having cataract surgery didn’t help matters either! She has bounced back really well. Determined to walk her granddaughter down the aisle in March for her wedding, Susan ditched her walker and is now using a walking stick.
At last, she is able to return to painting again, a much loved past time, which she enjoys so much. She will not let a painting beat her, not even the difficult ones.
She likes to paint pictures with a different edge. Inspired by the late Frank Forster, Director of Wharemoana Academy of Painting in Hamilton. He told her she “had painting in her, for her to inspire herself”. He was the only art teacher she had. He was a wonderful man. As a young child Susan’s parents encouraged her. Her father would take her drawings to work and sell them (obviously small shillings!)
She enjoys subjects that are a bit different and fun. Materials used: DAS Exhibition canvases, Fredrix pure cotton duck and Atelier and Matisse acrylic paints.
Previous exhibitions have been in Hamilton, Cambridge, Raglan, and now Napier.
Having the opportunity to show case her work again has given her renewed inspiration to continue her passion. She has plenty of ideas for the future. This Exhibition is a mixture of paintings from the last few years in Hawke’s Bay.
