Melopsittacus Undulates
by Rox Price
Date: Aug 1 – Aug 31Space: Under The Stairs
Budgerigars: They are brave and smart, expert flyers whose colours shine like jewels, yet it is for their bold patterning that the species are named. Undulates is a reference to the wavy black patterning on the back and head of this magnificent little parrot. Through the medium of block printing Melopsittacus Undulates investigates the boldness of the budgerigar: their bold personalities and bold patterns. Works are printed on Japanese Awagami paper in an A4 handpress, with selected works hand coloured.
Rox Price studied sculpture at Whanganui Regional Community Polytechnic more years ago than she cares to remember. She now works in 2D, with preferred mediums including: pen and ink, acrylic paint and block printing. Her work explores the lives of animals and characters in an illustrative style. She lives and works in Ahuriri with her husband and pet birds.
