Jane Brimblecombe

Deco City

Date: Feb 15 – Feb 29Space: Small Gallery

Wellington born artsit Jane Brimblecombe has always had an interest in the arts which she first recognised at the age of two, and has painted, potted, sculpted and made jewellery throughout her life.

Well recognised for her stunning hand-cut mosaic mirrors, Jane’s main inspiration comes from the sea and music. She is a member of a heavy rock band, a singer songwriter and published poet. Her work is influenced by the flow and rhythm of Hokusai and the symmetry of Art Deco. Jane likes to create works that are uplifting and celebrate light!

Jane has exhibited her work since 1999 and had her first solo at the NZ Academy of Fine Arts in 2001.  She has exhibited her work in many group exhibitions including those of the Academy and Shelly Bay artists.  Jane is an Elected Artist Member of the Academy and former curator/exhibitions manager.  Jane’s work is in New York, Canada, Australia, London and Europe.  Commissions and sales include works for The British High Commission in Wellington, 14 pieces for the QT Hotel Apartments, Goethe Institute, local and international celebrities, and numerous private commissions.  In 2012 her work sold to the James Wallace Art Trust for the permanent collection.  In 2019 Jane completed a major commission for the new Wellington Airport, Rydges Hotel, a 3 x 6 metre mosaic mirror glass wall depicting pre European Wellington, impressive!
