Poetry Open Mic Night
A monthly get together by Napier Live Poets
Date: Feb 1 – Dec 6Space: Workshop
Welcome to 2021! And especially to new faces who have expressed an interest in attending.
Our first meeting of the year is on February 1st at CAN, 16 Byron Street, Napier – at 6:00 pm. See you there!
Come along and be a part of the wonderful, vibrant poetry group, where you can share your own work and hear poems by other members of Hawke’s Bay’s community. If you want to just listen, that is fine too. Napier Live Poets is tremendously supportive of all writers. The poets sit in a semi-circle (chairs) and often make brief comments or share stories and memories that relate to the poems just heard.
The material is wide-ranging – personal, historical, topical. No two meetings are ever the same. You will usually get the chance to share more than one piece of work, too. Each year, on National Poetry Day in August, we have a special event for the community – for example, this year will be collaborations between poets and photographers.
So – all welcome and we hope to see you soon. It is fine if you want to come just occasionally!
Listen to Radio Kidnappers – Hawke’s Bay Poetry Live. Jeremy interviewed Dave Sharp – who gives a wonderful talk about his writing and shares many – often humorous poems. There are also recent interviews with Lynne Frith and Kay White available to play.
In March – veteran Kiwi poet Ron Riddell and his Columbian wife Saray Torres-Riddell will be attending the meeting (March 1st) and presenting a 30-minute sample of his work. Ron has lived between Columbia and NZ and travelled many places in between over the years. His work has been published in many languages and is well known in centres around NZ. He will bring a new book and several others to sell. Come along to see him and his wife – who may even read a few lines in Spanish.
Dates: The first Monday of each month (including public holidays): 1 Feb, 1 March, 5 April, 3 May, 7 June, 5 July, 2 August, 6 Sept, 4 Oct, 1 Nov, and 6 Dec 2021.
Time: From 6pm
