Hawke’s Bay pastel artist Jackie Krzyzewski (Jackie K-Art) has lived in Hawkes Bay most of her life and is a member of the Keirunga Artists Group and PANZ (Pastel Association of New Zealand). She has won multiple awards in national and international competitions, and has had art selected for international online exhibitions in the USA.
“I specialise in animal portraiture, still life subjects and nature such as fruit, vegetables and flowers. My medium is pastel, mostly pastel pencils, which give a lot of control over the application of the pigment and allows blending to achieve different colours and textures. I also sometimes use pastel sticks or pan pastels to create background areas as these are very soft and make it easy to blend and create that slightly out of focus look.
My style is realism, tending towards photo-realism, although I like the picture to retain the look of a painting rather than be too perfectly photographic.
I picked up my art hobby again as something to do during COVID-19 lock down in March 2020 after a break of over 40 years and I have been creating art continuously since.” Jackie
Jackie’s incredible pastel drawings from her latest collection ‘Pastel Perfect’ will be showing and available to purchase in the CAN foyer throughout February 2024
