CAN is excited to be part of this years Nuit Blanche – Art After Dark.
Featuring the Coastal Rhythm Section playing from 6.30-8.30pm – A seasoned local band with members from Haumoana, Napier and Waipawa.
Repertoire for the evening includes songs from:
- Lou Reed, friend of Andy Warhol, singer/songwriter founding member of The Velvet Underground (House Band at Andy’s Factory) and all-round famous guy.
- John Cale, a Welsh musician and founding member of The Velvet Underground, produced many alternative artists, including Patti Smith, worked with Brian Eno.
- After Andy’s death, Lou Reed and John Cale recorded an album called “Songs for Drella” (“Drella” being Andy’s alter ego)
- Jim Morrison from the Doors, who apparently had a fiery affair with Nico from the Velvet Underground.
- Leonard Cohen was bewitched and influenced (sadly not seduced) by Nico, his first album came about after many nights listening to Nico singing solo in one of Andy Warhol’s nightclubs.
- Bob Dylan became friends with Nico from The Velvet Underground in May 1964 in Paris (as you do…)
- Other songs including David Bowie and very early Rolling Stones (Lady Jane)
