Not Only Watercolours
by Roseanna Wohnsiedler
Date: Aug 1 – Aug 21Space: Workshop
Many years ago, Roseanna Wohnsiedler attended a week long watercolour workshop in Akaroa with Nancy Tichbourne. Roseanna’s early watercolours were very much inspired by her. Later she fell in love with wet-on-wet techniques. The naïve paintings in this exhibition are inspired by Grandma Moses and traditional folk art incorporating NZ scenes. A number of these watercolours and naïves have been published by Oxted Resources in their NZ Artists greeting card range.
Roseanna was born in Gisborne but now lives in Napier. She was involved in teaching traditional folk art and watercolour. Although mainly self-taught, she attended a number of workshops with local and international tutors. Her main passion is painting icons but also enjoys painting in naïve styles, inspired by American naïve painting and antique items, often incorporating childhood memories. She has exhibited widely, and her work is included in New Zealand and overseas collections.
