Monochrome
by Lucie Anderson
Date: Aug 1 – Aug 31Space: Foyer
Monochrome marks a return to Lucie Anderson’s artistic roots. Long before she found her voice in fluid inks, Lucie was drawn to the stark, emotive power of black and white photography, a medium that shaped her sensitivity to light, form, and contrast.
This new body of work reimagines that early fascination through the unpredictable movement of alcohol ink. Stripped of colour, the pieces explore balance, tension, and the quiet strength of simplicity. Each composition invites the viewer to slow down and experience the emotional rhythm found within light and shadow, control and release.
Artist Bio
Lucie Anderson is a contemporary artist based in Napier, New Zealand. Born in Belgium, she was immersed in the creative world from an early age, growing up in her family’s stationery and art shop. She went on to study photography, where she developed a deep appreciation for composition, light, and contrast, a foundation that continues to influence her work.
Lucie now works primarily with alcohol inks, using air tools and flowing gestures to guide the pigment across non-absorbent surfaces. Her process balances control and spontaneity, allowing the inks to settle in organic, often unexpected ways. Each piece is unrepeatable, a unique moment captured in fluid motion.
Guided by music, rhythm, and intuition, Lucie creates artwork that speaks to emotion, energy, and the natural world. Her bold, expressive pieces are known for their movement and depth, whether rendered in vibrant colour or in the striking simplicity of monochrome. She regularly exhibits across New Zealand and is gaining recognition for her dynamic, innovative approach to abstract art.
