Having no formal training, apart from an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design, Marion Aitken’s art journey started with watercolours, learning from tutorial videos from a fabulous watercolour artist in Australia. Marion continued onto acrylics and then onto oils with their amazing blending capabilities. Floral and botanical art is her main choice of artwork but she loves experimenting in all different types of art including landscape and abstract. Being a perfectionist, Marion prefers paintings with a lot of detail as opposed to a looser style of painting. Colour and light inspire her and this is more apparent with sunlight and shadows that play when the light turns and catches onto petals and leaves.
Marion is ambitious in her approach to art and will give anything a go. Her foray into abstract art gives her a different perspective than that with botanicals. Even with abstract, Marion loves the complexity of lines and movement but she also likes he work to be structured so again, its not a loose style but more stylised.
In the past twelve months Marion has been accepted into a large Art Show in Christchurch where she sold a beautiful botanical painting. She was also accepted into the Aspiring Art Awards in Wanaka in January of this year. Marion has won several awards in her hometown of Taupo with local exhibitions.
