The Indonesian community in Hawke’s Bay presents their traditional textiles to the wider Hawke’s Bay community in this textile exhibition. Batik is the traditional textile which on October 2, 2009 was officially recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity from Indonesia. Since then, the Indonesian people and Indonesian government have been encouraged to safeguard, transmit, promote, and develop the craftsmanship of batik.
