Graham Morrell
'Napier Revealed'
Date: Jul 21 – Jul 30Space: Workshop
Graham ‘Grim’ Morrell spent 39 years as a Forensic Photographer for the NZ Police in Wellington and Hawke’s Bay.
This collection of photographs was started in 2022 and is dedicated to Graham’s son Ian who died on 30th January 1996, aged 14, and to his wife Carol who died on 28th March 2019, one month short of turning 63.
Graham has always liked the architecture of the Art Deco buildings in Napier which has inspired him to turn
“building restorer” on his stunning photographs, doing some “plastering, removing and replacing windows, sign writing, straightening up buildings, removing aircon units, rust stains, moss, bird poop and taking out trees that block a proper view of the architecture – no chainsaws required!”
“I hope I’ve brought some of these buildings “back to life”, showing what some were like, what some could have been like, or how I think they now look better in my photographs. I’m going to publish a photo book which will include these images displayed here, along with a lot of others. Any profit from the sale of this book will be split between The Breast Cancer Foundation, and Cranford Hospice.
Thanks for looking…
