Memories: Fresh Out the Slammer

‘Memories: Fresh Out the Slammer’ will be Ella Mandac’s second solo exhibition at CAN.

Ella started out with creating digital illustrations using Adobe Illustrator, now venturing into painting with acrylics. The transition was hard at first, going from a phase of “crtl+alt+z” to accepting and correcting mistakes manually. Painting has become a ground zero of experimentation with brushes, pigments, medium and styles. Through lots of trials and errors, this aspiring artist has learned valuable lessons in spontaneity, creativity and just about having fun while creating pieces of art. Being constantly inspired by the mundane, while also being motivated and unmotivated by the hustle and bustle of life.

Through this series of works, the memories that are attached to these objects hold significant value and function to the artist. From collecting to remembrance, memories might be a little bit ephemeral – especially as we age – but keeping a record of it might make it eternal.
