Fine Furniture with History

by Jason Akuhata-Brown

Date: Feb 1 – Feb 28Space: Under The Stairs

Established in 1996, Jason Akuhata-Brown Restorer’s was birthed out of Jason’s passion for restoring and repurposing old furniture.

He began from humble beginnings on a dirt floor in a shed at the back of their rented home.

One day he took on a little restoration project for his home – an old discarded chest of drawers. He really didn’t know how to go about it but read up on books (before the internet had really kicked off) and got into it. The transformation got him hooked and he began collecting and restoring as a hobby for about 2 years as he improved his skills, and decided in 1996 to go full time. Over the last 28 years, his passion – never waning – has grown.

His knowledge of Period furniture, especially NZ made pieces, has expanded – especially from mid 1800s through to 1970s where he believes the best craftsmanship skill was given to furniture.

Jason looks forward to showcasing examples of his work over the month of February at CAN.

Opening night Friday 31st January  5-7pm.
