…Eternally Impermanent:

Reflections on the Wabi-Sabi of Life & Cosmos

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy that embraces the beauty of imperfection and impermanence. It is a way of finding elegance in the natural cycle of growth and decay. This exhibition is a celebration of nature’s intricate beauty, inspired by the imperfect yet harmonious patterns we see around us. This new collection captures the essence of nature’s quiet wisdom and its reflection of the wabi-sabi philosophy—the beauty of imperfection and impermanence.

Erica Toh is the local artist   behind Textures by Erica. Embracing minimalism and a deep respect for nature and natural forms, Erica’s plaster art is more than a visual experience; it is an invitation to reconnect with the earth, to find solace in simplicity, and to appreciate the intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings.

In Erica’s work, there is a harmonious blend of ancient inspiration and contemporary design, creating pieces that are not only visually captivating but also evoke deeper themes of existence and our intrinsic bond with the natural world.

Through this unique artistic vision, Erica continues to explore and celebrate the profound connections between humanity, nature, and the timeless medium and structures that have inspired us throughout history.

Mickey Espino is a contemporary artist currently pursuing a Master’s in Psychology, where he focuses on the therapeutic benefits of art in fostering emotional and psychological well-being. With a deep commitment to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives, Mickey intertwines his psychological practice with the transformative power of art.

Guided by the philosophies of Kintsugi and Wabi-Sabi, Mickey’s work celebrates the beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and brokenness. His art is inspired by personal experiences and encounters with patients and individuals demonstrating remarkable resilience in the face of life-changing challenges. These stories of strength, recovery, and growth are central to his creative practice.

Through his art, Mickey invites viewers to reflect on the transient and imperfect nature of life, fostering connection, healing, and self-discovery. His ongoing journey as an artist and psychology researcher continues to explore the profound potential of art as a tool for transformation and personal growth.

Opening night Friday January 17th 5-7pm.
