Colour My World
by the Tuesday Painters
Date: Oct 31 – Nov 30Space: Workshop
The world we live in is rich in colour. From the moment we open our eyes in the morning to the moment we close them at night, we are surrounded by colour.
Not only does colour play an integral role in the way we describe the world around us, it can also dramatically affect moods, feelings, and emotions. In the words of Russian abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky, colour is a power that directly influences the soul.
For a long time, people believed that colours were objective, physical properties of objects or of the light that bounced off them.
Today, however, most experts agree that colour, as commonly understood, doesn’t inhabit the physical world at all but exists in the eyes or minds of its beholders. They argue that there is no such thing as colour; there are only the people who perceive it.
For the past 11 years, our small group of painters has met at CAN on a Tuesday morning. Many of the originals are still part of the group and we now call ourselves the Tuesday Painters. This year we have chosen to make colour the hero of our work. This exhibition is a celebration of our world of colour.
