Don Wilkie
Date: Jul 22 – Aug 8Space: Small Gallery
Born in the early 1950’s Don’s interest in art started at a very young age where he would do drawing and painting of aircraft to put up on his bedroom wall in Wellington New Zealand.
His career took him to Auckland where he was a laboratory technician processing colour film and prints for advertising agencies. From there Don went into the printing industry having his own Graphic Design company. He shifted to Napier in 1995 in the industry and also took up positions on the board of trustees with the local museum and the Art Deco Trust.
Don took up painting full time in January 2012. After he put his first painting up on his Painting Facebook site he was asked to do my first commission. Since then he has had numerous exhibitions and commissions. Don has a love of history which has helped him research his paintings, which lends towards realism and an eye for detail.
Don is self-taught and picks subjects that will stretch him to achieve new goals which he finds very satisfying and challenging. His work is sold locally in New Zealand and overseas in America and England and Norway.
