About the Centre

CAN

Creative Arts Napier’s long held vision was to create a Community Arts Centre for the people of Napier and beyond – a vibrant and energetic creative space where all are welcome, regardless of ability, ethnicity, culture or age. The goal was to make the Arts Centre the leading ‘go to’ place for all artists and to provide accessibility to the Arts for the wider community in Hawke’s Bay.

In early 2014 a submission was made to the Napier City Council for the use of the old museum discovery and education centre which was moved off its site to Byron Street to make room for the new MTG building. In December 2014 CAN opened the doors and have been operational since, showing exhibitions of drawings, paintings, photographs and sculpture, hosting creative workshops for adults and children, plus facilitating art performances and more.
