About CAN

Our mission is to enhance the creative spirit of Napier by providing accessible and affordable arts opportunities for artists and art lovers. Entry is free, and we are open 7 days a week over summer,  Monday – Sunday 10am – 4pm.  CAN is a registered charity, so donations are gratefully received in the donations box located in the foyer.

Debra Thompson is a mixed media artist born in Hawkes’ Bay.

Since 2017, Thompson has received awards and solo exhibitions, making her a force in the world of contemporary art.

Drawing inspiration from the world of pop art, she delves deep into the legacies of iconic figures such as Takashi Murakami, Andy Warhol, and Wayne Thiebaud. Thompson synthesizes these influences to create a visual language uniquely her own, where vibrant colours and pop culture collide in a contemporary fusion.

Debra Thompson is a contributor to the Hawkes’ Bay art scene, a contemporary visionary who combines the dynamism of urban life with the magnetism of pop culture.

CAN would like to give a huge thank you to Debra for allowing us to use her fantastic Andy Warhol piece in the promotional material for our upcoming Warhol & Friends exhibition! Debra has works available for purchase at CAN, Pop in and take a look.
