The CAN's Interactive Art Installation!
Date: Oct 8 – Oct 24Space: Main Gallery
‘White Out’ is CAN’s contribution to the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival 2018, and the White Night event in the Arts Quarter of Napier on Saturday 20 October.
Inspired by the highly acclaimed and successful Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Obliteration Room’ Art Installation at Auckland City Art Gallery, CAN has created White Out to inspire the community to participate!
Enter the CAN’s main gallery which will be blacked out, and negotiate your way around the room. You will be offered a sheet of white sticky spots for a small koha of $2, and invited to place them wherever you choose – your additions becoming part of the creative element of the installation. Large multi-faceted black shapes will stand up from the floor to a height of 2 metres, and quite literally hundreds of glowing spots will float before your eyes, creating a multitude of optical illusions. The more white spots stuck onto the shapes, walls and floor, the more distorted and obfuscated those shapes will become.
This is an activity and sensory experience suitable for any age; bring the whole family!
Complimentary to the installation will be an exhibition on the mezzanine floor themed as ‘White’. Two established and two emerging artists have been invited to exhibit representing the genres of painting, photography, ceramics and printmaking. Entry is free.
White Out is proudly sponsored by DVS and generously funded by Napier City Council’s Community Funding.
