“Nature Provides Exceptions To Every Rule” Margret Fuller
Transformations is an exhibition by Jennifer Dickerson and Cate Godwin. Jennifer and Cate are art educators at Hastings Girls High School.
Transformations celebrates nature’s power and its renewal qualities.
Jennifer Dickerson works as a digital photographic illustrator. She uses her natural surroundings and her children to inspire the story telling potential of digital photography. Jennifer explores combinations and textures, and layers many different images all on one surface. The wonderful life and freedom we have in the Bay, with its rich natural environments has inspired this body of work.
The hills and ranges of Hawke’s Bay have a major influence on Cate Godwin’s work, whereas she is also inspired by more intimate garden settings. Looking more minutely, the surface and texture of bark and leaves are the essence of Cate’s paintings. Photography and digital manipulation are used to generate her abstract works, and Maori references are used to acknowledge them as mana whenua of our land.
This exhibition is the culmination of two years’ work inspired by these two artists response to the local environment. They are constantly moving forward, learning new techniques and processes and expanding their horizons.
