The bottom of my ♥️
Work in mixed media by Carol Goodier
Date: Oct 1 – Oct 31Space: Foyer
Carol Goodier regards herself as a creative person rather than an artist. She particularly enjoys handcrafted making. Carol graduated from the Ideaschool at EIT in 2014 focusing on design and handcrafted objects. She does not have a lot of patience for the waffle of ‘art speak’ and enjoys the idea of simple yet clever colourful prints that make you smile and brightens the space. It has been described as fun art.
This year Carol promised herself that she would get into a bit of printmaking by joining the ‘Hawke’s Bay Inkers’, and was part of their yearly exhibition in Hastings. This wee micro exhibition at the CAN is an extension of an idea that made her laugh while she was working on the prints for that show using the same heart linocut block.
When she is printing, Carol has a clean aesthetic that uses white space and simple bold colours, often with a touch of whimsy. She says of her ideas; ‘my art style isn’t going to answer any deep questions but hopefully it makes you smile inside’.
‘The bottom of my ♥️ ’ is the marrying of a common image and the visual connections we make with an out-of-context written or spoken statement. This is presented within a contained and orderly composition, juxtaposed by the noise of colour and text.
Or, you can just pragmatically see it as paper, ink and stitched words that may or may not pique your sense of humour in relation to the language we use every day.
Join Carol to celebrate the opening of her exhibition on Friday 12 October, 5-7pm. All welcome!
