Out There Again
The recent work of Bobbi Angelini
Date: Jul 24 – Aug 6Space: Small Gallery
Bobbi Anglini’s first solo exhibition was called ‘Out There’. So, it seemed right to call this one ‘Out There Again.’
Also, the fact we are all out there again; after Lockdown. She doesn’t call herself a Greenie, but as an artist is keenly aware that we need to nurture nature. As Bobbi brought her paintings together, she noticed the predominance of greens and blues. She finds these colours quite calming.
The beauty of nature we try to capture in our art, will remain if we love it back.
‘People say they recognise my work by the lively colour and movement. I enjoy working from nature and my surrounds. Using mainly acrylic, I like how it can be mixed with other mediums such as ink or pastel. It can be thick, or watered down like water colour. Sometimes soft, sometimes bright.
An early influence was Sir Peter Mc Intyre’s landscapes, which I first saw at the Kelliher Art Awards in the sixties.
While living in NSW, I took classes at TAFE, which is similar to Polytech. I have entered various exhibitions around NSW, including Armidale, Canowindra, Bathurst and Orange.
Since returning to New Zealand 5 years ago, I have exhibited at the Lindauer Art Exhibition Woodville, Manawatu Art Expo, The Odlins Gallery Lower Hutt, Dannevirke Art Society Exhibition and Square Edge Palmerston North. The Woodville Art and History group has been very supportive.
I am inspired by colour and form around me. It might be the design on a scarf, or the energy of a flower or tree I walked past. When I watch TV, it’s the art in the background that catches my eye.
Now that I have moved from painting at the kitchen table to my new studio at home in Woodville, I hope to create some scintillating art! No pressure!’
