Watercolour paintings by Bev Doohan
Date: Sep 1 – Sep 30Space: Foyer
After a lifetime of involvement with plant material from 30 years doing church flowers, to 20 years as a Floral Designer with the Floral Art Society of New Zealand’s Taradale Floral Art Group and a keen gardener, Bev Doohan has been up close and personal with plant material for a long time.
The desire to paint plant material and the natural world had been sitting at the back of Bev’s mind for a few years but life got in the way, and she always felt this was very much a pipe dream. When the opportunity came to join Evelyn Thomson’s Studio as a pupil it was too good an opportunity to pass up. Bev tentatively approached Evelyn and said she couldn’t paint and couldn’t draw but would like to. Her brisk reply that there was no such thing as can’t and she would see Bev on Friday morning. Thanks to Evelyn Bev is in the place she is today.
Bev has now enjoyed ten years of water colour painting and trying to tame a sometimes frustrating and challenging medium; ‘Water colour takes no prisoners but the feeling of satisfaction when you think you may have got it right makes it all worthwhile’.
Bev’s exhibition is on display in the CAN foyer for the month of September, with works for sale at very reasonable prices.
