SO, you’re an artist and you want to get your name out there. But where do you start? How do you raise the funds to pay for a gallery space to show your work?
Well… WE CAN HELP YOU!
Did you know that you can apply for funding to help cover some costs of your CAN exhibition or event? We can assist and advise you on this process, at no extra charge.
To ensure Napier’s aspiring artists keep their creative juices flowing, Creative New Zealand, in partnership with Napier City Council, distributes over $46,000 per annum to groups, organisations and individuals working within our local creative community. There is no maximum amount you can apply for, though the average grant is usually between $500 and $2,500.
Creative Communities Funding Scheme is specifically for grass roots arts related projects. Your application must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Participation. The project will create opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts activities.
• Diversity. The project will support the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity.
• Young People. The project will enable and encourage young people (under 18 years) to engage with and actively participate in the arts.
There are two funding rounds per year; February and July.

Creative Arts Napier can help with your application. As a rough guide, apply in February for projects starting after 1 April, and in July for projects starting after 1 October. You can apply for costs relating to the hire fees for your exhibition space, for advertising and in some instances, for personal costs. CCFS will not fund exhibition openings.
