Recent work that looks to the future
Date: Aug 1 – Aug 31Space: Foyer
For a long period of time, Justin Cheung considered art as a simple hobby. However, after growing up watching films such as The Lord of the Rings and various cartoons, he was enamoured with the way a director’s vision could be realised through conceptual art and design.
Justin has been inspired by many artists such as Bobby Chiu, Alan Lee, Salvador Dali, Genndy Tartakavosky and Hirohiko Araki. His future aspiration is to turn his hobby into a career in film or animation.
Justin is currently 17 years of age and aims to hone his skills in anatomy, colour theory and perspective, to pursue a dream job as a concept/character artist for film and animation, or an illustrator for graphic novels and books.
The work displayed in the exhibition is from Justin’s previous and current school portfolios, exploring surrealism and creature design. Influenced have come from some of his favourite artists and genres, such as Dali, Chui and steampunk. His preferred medium is watercolour and pen & ink.
This exhibition has been made possible with the generous assistance of Creative Communities Funding Scheme.
