Japanese Mokuhanga Workshop
Japanese woodblock printmaking with Sybille Schlumbom
Date: Aug 29 – Aug 29Space: Workshop
Join us for a one day ‘play with print’ session with Artist and Printmaker, Sybille Schlumbom. Sybille is an expert in the area of Japanese Woodcut Printmaking, called Mokuhanga.
This hands-on workshop is designed to give you a ‘taster’ of Japanese style printmaking. No printing press is required for this technique, making it ideal to do at home!
Japanese woodcut differs from European woodcut in three particular ways:
- the application of the water based inks by brush
- the use of a hand held baren for printing
- the use of kento registration marks, carved directly into the block
She will demonstrate the technique of Mokuhanga and expertly guide participants to have a play and create their own Mokuhanga prints to take home.
You will learn about the tools required, where to buy them, and the paper that is used for this style of printing.
This workshop is aimed at beginners but also artists, printmakers, book lovers, teachers etc.
