Intro to Reduction Linocut
Saturday Printmaking Classes
Date: Aug 25 – Sep 8Space: Workshop
Suitable for anyone who has previous experience of relief printmaking, this 3-week course will cover the basics of reduction printing using lino blocks. If you are a beginner, you can also join in the fun using some simple images, so don’t be shy. Reduction printing is a process of printing in more than once colour, using careful paper registration and gradually cutting away your block between printing each layer of colour.
Tutor Lisa Feyen will guide you through the process over a short series of 3 Saturday morning workshops, that will cover everything from where to look for inspiration, how to prepare your block, to using the CAN etching press to print your limited edition!
Learn how to select and prepare a suitable image, transfer it to lino and plan your 2 or 3-colour image, using lino cutting tools to carve into the block. We will be printing a small edition on paper, as we do it learning how to ink your block, carefully register your paper using a template, and work a press.
Use of the CAN tools and press, inks and paper are included. There will be a small charge for lino (A5 pieces are $6 each, available at the CAN).
As full instruction of every class is given promptly at 10am, please arrive to each class on time. We will be working with A5 (148mm x 210mm) lino blocks, so if you want to prepare some images beforehand, use this size as a guideline. Preparation beforehand is not essential however.
