In Retrospect

A collection of work by Printmaker Tracey Adams

Date: Nov 5 – Nov 30Space: Foyer

A small collection of mezzotint and mono prints, pencil drawings and mixed media artwork by local artist and printmaker Tracey Adams.

Originally from Auckland, Tracey moved to Hawke’s Bay in 2005 and after an artistic ‘hiatus’ is returning to where her passion lies.  She is introducing herself to the Hawke’s Bay audience through this retrospective showing of past work before embarking on a new body of work for exhibition in 2019/20.

Tracey has an extensive background in the Fine Arts.  She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts Degree from Auckland University of Technology (in association with ASA School of Art) and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland.

Among the highlights of her career so far has been receiving the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant from New York in 2001, being the first New Zealand artist to complete an international artist residency at Lademoen  Kunstnerverksteder in Trondheim, Norway, culminating in a solo exhibition at Trondhjem  Kunstforening in 2003, being selected as a finalist in the inaugural triennial Sculpture on the Gulf outdoor sculpture exhibition/award on Waiheke Island, and being part of numerous exhibitions in Auckland.

Tracey trained as a Printmaker utilising the traditional technique of mezzotinting along with carborundum and screenprinting. For her Masters degree her focus turned to more sculptural aspects and combined digital image, screen-print, paint and sculptures of metal pipe. Leading up to, and including her residency in Norway, her work included traditional pencil drawing on archival paper and sculptures made of recycled cardboard boxes.

Most recently her focus has been on drawing, watercolour, paper crafting such as decoupage, screen-printing, and digital imaging.

Having completed a CAN workshop in drypoint etching earlier this year her enthusiasm for print has returned and a whole new body of work is blossoming which will culminate in her first solo exhibition of new work in Hawke’s Bay in 2019/20.
