Fibre to Fabulous

Fibre Art by Elaine Macgregor and Kath O'Halloran

Date: Jan 19 – Feb 1Space: Small Gallery

Kath O’Halloran and Elaine Macgregor are fibre artists and have been friends for about 10 years. They meet regularly at Napier Weavers.

Their shared passion for creating results in many hours together making and selling their work at market stalls though out the North Island. They also teach others to felt.

They make a good team inspiring each other and helping each other when they get lost.

Elaine says that being an artist is in her blood, with a creative mother and sisters with fine art degrees. She loves it and feels alive when she’s creating. Elaine started knitting at primary school and never stopped! Rarely following a pattern, she works intuitively and lets her creations talk to her, telling her what to do next. Elaine works at home in a house full of wool, working with natural fibres such as wool, silk ,alpaca, mohair, possum, and angora, regularly taking part in the following:

Creative Fibre

Fibre and Fleece

Wool On

Alpaca Expos

Elaine and Kath have different styles but support and like each other. Elaine was born in Hawkes Bay and has never left. She has no formal qualifications but has won awards for her creations.
