About the Centre

Creative Arts Napier’s long held vision was to create a Community Arts Centre for the people of Napier and beyond – a vibrant and energetic creative space where all are welcome, regardless of ability, ethnicity, culture or age. The goal being, to make the Arts Centre the leading ‘go to’ place for all artists, and the central ‘Arts information hub’ in Hawke’s Bay.

Seven years ago, Creative Napier closed its gallery and workshop premises on Hastings Street in the centre of town, due to rising costs and rents. Since then, we have been on the lookout for a suitable, affordable home where we could once again have a presence in the CBD.

In early 2014 a submission was made to the Napier City Council for the use of the old museum discovery and education centre which was moved off its site to Byron Street to make room for the new MTG building.

In December 2014 we opened our doors and have been operational since, showing exhibitions of drawings, paintings, photographs and sculpture, hosting performances by drama groups as well as meetings and conferences.
